A Case Of Uterus Didelphys
Filed in archive Medical Issues on January 6, 2009
Uterus didelphys. I heard it first in an episode of Grey's anatomy. Now I just read a case about it.
Uterus didelphys is a rare condition wherein a woman has double uterus and double cervix. A one in a million condition, usually the vagina opening splits into two internally. Most of the time diagnosis happens when couples consult a doctor for reproductive difficulties.
Imagine this: pregnancy has to depend on whether the sperm reaches the right uterus where there is a woman's egg waiting. Suffice to say that pregnancy in a woman with uterus didelphys has to be monitored closely by a doctor. The case is more than special and then delivery would have to be c-section automatically.

I actually have this condition, And i just wanted to corect you on one thing just so others with this condition will know. I am 8 months pregnant in the left side, and while it is true that half the women who get pregnant with uterus didelphys may need a c-section it depends on your body. No two uteri are the same and every uterus reacts differently, some are smaller, some are bigger. My baby is in head down position, and as long as he stays head down I will not need a c-section.

i have uterus didelphys and i was pregnant in the right uterus first and had to have a c-section due to breach presentation. i am now 38 weeks pregnant in the left uterus and will have to have another c-section due to breach presentation again. which my doctor would not have allowed a vaginal birth anyways because he said it was still be considered a vbac and i live in an area where no hospitals allow it.
