According to statistics, an estimated 3 to 5 percent of pregnant women are diagnosed with depression.
What are anti-depressant drugs doing, you might say?
Of course there are safety concerns as these are pregnant women we are talking about.
Enter acupunture.
Acupuncture may hold promise for depression in pregnant women, a new study, co-authored by a University of Texas at Austin College of Pharmacy researcher, shows.
The findings, published in the medical journal Obstetrics & Gynecology, show that 12 acupuncture treatments over eight weeks might help reduce the severity of depression symptoms.
I'm not fully convinced. But then any non-drug option to battle major depression while pregnant is surely welcome.
What do you think?
