Asthma and Pregnancy
Filed in archive Medical Issues on July 7, 2008

If you suffer from asthma, you might be worried what the effects might be on your child and whether you should continue with your medications. No drug can be pronounced as completely safe as it is not morally and ethically possible to conduct experiments on people to determine all the possible side effects. However, if you're having an asthmatic episode, the consensus is that it is better for both you and your child if you take your medications. After all, you don't want to deprive your baby of oxygen, or land yourself unnecessarily in the ER.
Like any other pre-existing health problems you may have, you should discuss this with your OB/Gyn, midwife or any other health professional attending your pregnancy.
