Pregnancy and Dental Woes

Just because you are pregnant does not mean that you should forego your dental check-ups. In fact, taking care of your teeth and gums during pregnancy is more important than ever.

About 50-75% of pregnant women suffer from what is called pregnancy gingivitis – red, tender, and swollen gums caused by hormonal changes. Often there would be bleeding when brushing teeth. Another less common condition is the formation of pregnancy tumors in the gums. Don't worry, they aren't cancerous. They are just extreme inflammatory reactions to food particles or plaque. They may go away after giving birth, but in some cases, they may have to be surgically removed.
