Will Alternative Medicine Increase Your Chances of Getting Pregnant?
Filed in archive Pre-Conception , Trying To Conceive on September 21, 2009
If you've been trying to get pregnant and been using some form of alternative treatment, then you are not alone. A study conducted by experts at Ohio State University Medical Center and recently published in the Journal of Reproductive Medicine shows that two out of three women include some form of alternative treatment in their hopes of getting pregnant.
The most common intervention were religious intervention or prayer (33.8%), changes in sexual practices (28.6%) and dietary changes (21.8%), while some others went for yoga and acupuncture treatments. Most of them thought that there's no harm in trying or wanted to supplement traditional therapies.
Although there's a recently published study indicating that alternative medicine may reduce IVF success rates, some experts believe that while there may be little scientific proof that methods like these actually work, most are relatively harmless, except probably for some health supplements. Their advice? Take a team approach and keep your doctor informed of every method you consider for you can both agree on the best way to spend your time - and money.
